Carolyn’s Story

Carolyn:

Mediaplex_tag I’m a 35-year-old, married, working mother of two young children. My life is great even though it is a bit stressed. I travel for my job, manage my kids’ schedules, prepare most of our meals (even if I am sometimes too frazzled to sit down and enjoy them), eat out a lot on the road, and try to find time for my husband and me. I am always on the go... except (to put it frankly) sometimes, I literally cannot “go.” I need a solution for my occasional constipation that will allow me to live my busy life and give me relief when I need it. I can’t stop doing what I do and I don’t want to take something that might keep me tied to my bathroom. I know there are lots of women with constipation issues…so what is the best way to keep my life running and my digestive bowels moving? Constipation can be caused by things other than a hectic lifestyle. See other constipation sufferers’ profiles.

Mitzi Dulan, RD, CSSD:

We often hear about people like Carolyn who experience occasional episodes of constipation caused by their busy and often stressful lives—lives that are packed with professional, personal and family responsibilities. It’s what we call constipation related to changes in lifestyle. Finding time to eat well, relax, exercise and make time for regular bowel movements can be challenging when your day is crowded with so many things. When your life gets too hectic, you may find yourself experiencing bloating, irregularity and that feeling that you aren’t done going—these are all symptoms of lifestyle-related occasional constipation.

To avoid episodes of constipation like Carolyn’s, try to eat regular meals and keep your mealtimes on a schedule as much as possible. And it’s important to pay attention to your body’s signals that you need to go. Try to set aside regular times for your bowel movements. That way, it becomes part of your daily routine and you won’t feel rushed. And make sure you are drinking enough fluids — at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water or other uncaffeinated liquid a day. If you are on a fluid-restricted diet, consult with your physician about recommended fluid intake.

To help you avoid occasional constipation related to lifestyle like Carolyn’s, always consult with your physician to help you understand what you can do to change your life in ways that will improve your health and put you on track for better digestive regularity.

And, if you find yourself experiencing a bout of constipation like Carolyn’s, you might want to try Senokot® Tablets for relief. After all, to maintain a busy lifestyle, you need to feel good.

In general, to avoid occasional constipation, I recommend following the Six Steps to Combating Occasional Constipation.

Carolyn:

I started using Senokot® Tablets for occasional episodes and now have my constipation in check. I take it along with me on my business trips. It’s great to know that I can lead my busy life and have a product ready to help me through my bouts of occasional constipation.
